Recent information from Amoena has shown that the life of the Skin Supports can be extended for a considerable length of time by taking a few simple steps. Bacteria are the main enemy of the adhesive on the Skin Supports. By reducing the opportunity for bacteria to grow, the adhesive will last longer.

The first thing that must be done is to only bathe using antibacterial soap. This should become a habit. Two good examples are Dial Antibacterial and Lever 2000 Antibacterial (white bars only). Colorings, creams and fragrances encourage bacterial growth. Do not apply creams or perfumes in the area where a breast form will be attached.

Two or three hours before attaching the Amoena skin supports, clean your chest area with an exfoliating cream to remove all dead skin, salts, and oils on your skin. Your forms will come with exfoliating cream, once this is used up any exfoliating cream should work.

Follow the instructions provided with the forms to position the tapes. But apply the tapes about ¼" above where you would normally place them. This gives the tapes a larger area to adhere to the body above where the forms will be attached.

Apply the Skin Supports as long as possible before you will attach the forms. You may apply the supports the night before. The adhesive is heat activated and this will help it to "set up". If you must apply the tapes shortly before attaching the forms, hold your hands on the tapes for several minutes to warm the adhesives.

Some clients warm the tapes with a heating pad to make them more flexible and warm the adhesive. It is best not to bathe with the forms on. Wash them separately, dry and immediately place in their cradles.

The length of time that a breast form will last depends on: your body chemistry and proper care of the breast form. Generally a breast form will last between 1½ to 5 years. Proper care of the breast form; daily washing and proper storage can help increase the life of the product closer to the 5 year mark.

No, you do not have to use a mastectomy bra with your breast form. However, a majority of today's fashion bras cover appropriately ¾ of a breast. You will need to find a bra that can provide complete coverage. Otherwise, you can choose a smaller breast form that will fit into your chosen bra. In the end, you want to choose the products that will provide you the most comfort and best fit.
